DNS Hosts
What Do DNS Hosts Do?
Domain name hosting is part of the service done by domain name registrars, wherein they host the domain name in the domain name registry so one will be able to use it for a set period of time. But how exactly do DNS hosts do this? How do DNS hosts set-up the domain name so it will work for the website?
The set-up is the second part of the process for domain name configuration. Obviously, the DNS hosts set-up the domain name after they register it. For registration, one will have to provide a number of requirements, including owner, administrative, and technical credentials, as well as server details from the domain name system. If the domain name has not been registered by the DNS hosts, it cannot direct the client (or, in layman’s terms, the visitor of the website) to the webserver where the site’s files are located.
After the registration, the DNS hosts will have to record the address of the website to the forward lookup zone. This is created so the domain name system will be able to connect the domain name to webserver. In order to do this, the DNS hosts have to add certain details to the forward lookup zone. These details are the Start of Authority Record (which contains the DNS record), the address (A) record entry, alias (CNAME) entry, and the name server record. The mail exchanger set-up is also included if the DNS hosts include an e-mail server service to their hosting package.
